Get a feel of the river. Paddle left wait, then right or what ever. You have to go from side to side in order to go straight. You just have to play around to find out how to go straight. It all depends on the conditions of the water.

If you look at the owner photo gallery on the Native Watercraft site you will see a few different mounting options. There aren't a lot of photos of the pedal-drive version with fish finders. I looks like you can get a rail clamp and put it on the tube just forward of the pedals or try a mount on the cockpit rails. For either of those options you will probably want to look at RAM or Scotty mounts. Some users (mostly paddlers) have made what look like combo cutting boards/electronics/rod holder mounts. I'm not sure if that would work for yours, but you could try. My advice is to make a little 3D cardboard FF and duct tape it to a couple of different likely mounting points. Paddle/pedal around for a while and figure out which works best. Make sure you can see the screen, reach the controls while paddling/pedaling and that it doesn't get in the way of your legs/feet or rods

I just remembered that some guy from Florida posted pics of his Native on La Jolla Kayak fishing. It isn't the same model, but he did a lot of work on it.

Island View Beach is a good launch point for kayaking. There's a parking lot, a set of pit toilets that are really quite nice, and both a boat ramp & sloping gravel beach for launching conveniently. We've had several good outings from this beachfront park, which has great views looking both north and south along the Saanich Peninsula.
Today I received a press release from the Capital Regional District Parks department, and it's got great news. Not only did the CRD buy the private campground next to Island View Beach park back in October 2009, but the campground will be open in summer 2010!

The Times-Colonist newspaper wrote about this news story here. This is the CRD media release as it came to me:

February 18, 2010
Island View Beach Regional Park Campground To Re-Open This Summer
Victoria, BC -
The Island View Beach Regional Park campground in Central Saanich will be open this summer. The CRD Regional Parks Committee approved an interim plan to provide camping at Island View Beach for the 2010 and 2011 camping seasons.
In September 2009, CRD Regional Parks purchased land adjacent to Island View Beach Regional Park to complete the park boundary. The parcel included the previously privately owned RV and tenting campground.
Regional Parks is making improvements to the campground which include site cleanup, campground assessment and modification, re-naturalization of the foreshore to provide public access to the beach and containment of an infestation of carpet burweed (Soliva sessilis), an invasive plant. For safety and to prevent the spread of burweed, CRD Regional Parks is requesting the public avoid the campground area until it opens in May.
“Regional Parks will undertake a comprehensive planning review of the Island View Beach Management Plan, which will recommend long term use for the campground site,” said Christopher Causton, CRD Regional Parks Committee Chair. “This planning process will include the Cordova Shore Conservation Strategy, a business case, assessment of the campground, a public consultation process and an invasive species management plan.”
The improved campground will be designed and maintained to provide a high quality, self-contained camping experience. As well, it will connect to the day use areas to complete the parkas one contiguous area and ensure better protection of sensitive ecosystems.

Yep I've seen it in action. The outriggers actually move in to the hull to form a normal shape of a yak. And, with the pull of a lever, they extend out as in the pic. They have a rope attatched to the hull in front of the paddler, so you can grab a-hold and and pull yourself up into a standing position. Simply put, their a great skinny water yak, or great for sight fishing. Their not fast, but not slugs. If your interested in one, Ricky Mitchell (Fresno Ca) is a distributor.

Whitewater Kayaking by Judith426

Kayaking is not always about getting absolutely soaked steaming down a class IV river or bouncing around in the surf. There is a much gentler side. For me working in an office all day when the sun is shinning outside can be purgatory. It becomes a question of clock watching until 5.30pm finally frees me from my stuffy surroundings when I can yank my tie off and grab my paddles for an evening paddle in my inflatable kayak. The good thing about using an inflatable kayak on an evening trip is that I do not have to worry about loading it onto and strapping it down to a roof rack or at the other end strapping it to a kayak trolley to get to the waters edge.Because my inflatable kayak can be rolled up into a bag I can leave it on the main boat at the marina so all I need to do is to pump it up for five minutes when I get to the marina. This cuts down my ’scramble time’ considerably and gives me more time paddling in the water before it gets dark.During the summer months and with the sun setting around 9:30pm I can grab a good two hours or more paddle time and get to witness some amazing sunsets. The backwaters at Walton-on-the-Naze offer some of the most amazing scenery and whilst it may not be brimming with paradise like sandy beaches it does provide a truly stunning and remote taste of English countryside at its best. Most evenings when there is a glorious sun setting we paddle westward along the Twizzle which runs along the south side of Horsey Island. The channel dries out at low tide so once we paddle clear of the marina and past a few straggling swing moorings we have the area to ourselves with the only sign of any other human existence being the odd farmhouse in the distance. The benefit of being in my inflatable kayak is there is no cockpit so once wedged up against an oyster bed I can loosen the kayak seat, stretch out and soak up the evening sun. Spending two or three hours lying under the late sun in kayak is a truly cleansing experience that I would recommend to anyone. All you need is a flask of tea and something to eat a camera to take some snaps and your usual safety accessories and you are set for an evening of beautiful HD panoramic vistas all to yourself.Trust me there is nothing else quite like it. Whatever you do for a living you are probably stressed with some aspect of life and going for a relaxing paddle and watching the wildlife and sunset is a break from the everyday hustle and bustle and the ultimate way to relax.About the Author:

A woman from Alert Bay is set to attempt a solo circumnavigation of South Georgia Island. Hayley Shephard is currently in transit to the Island and is expected to begin her attempt today.

South Georgia Island lies in the South Atlantic Ocean just north of Antarctica, and while only 400 miles in circumference, it is one of the most difficult paddles in the world. The weather is unpredictable, wildlife dangerous, and water temperatures lethally cold.

Every night she will land, set up camp for the night and if weather permits continue on her way the following day, racking up as many miles as possible.

Money raised from this expedition go towards the  plight of the albatross.

You can follow Hayley’s trip at http://hayleyshephard.blogspot.com/.

Best of luck Hayley!

Kayaking Tips

What's your current occupation?

I have been in the Automotive smash repair industry as a Spraypainter for 14 years

How many years have you been Kayak Fishing?

Just over 4 years i have spent fishing from a kayak and continue to do so with as much enthusiasm as when i first started. Growing up in Canberra, the restrictions on power boats in the urban lakes makes the kayak a perfect choice to get out on the water and into some good fish. I got my first kayak which was a Ocean kayak ‘Frenzy’ in 2006, and have not looked back since.

I heard you own heaps of Kayaks, which ones?

I currently own 4 kayaks including a Hobie Pro Angler, which is my tournament yak and also my favourite for general estuary/bay fishing. A Hobie Quest, which gets mainly used for bass rivers in recent times. A Stealth BFS, which is a fibreglass South African fishing ski which is only used for the offshore trips and i still have my first yak which is the O.K Frenzy, which is a great small yak that i just cant bring myself to get rid of.

You moved from Canberra to the coast recently, ditched fresh for saltwater?

I moved from Canberra to the South Coast late in 2007 which is a move i wanted to make in my younger years but never had the opportunity to do so. I do really enjoy most forms of freshwater fishing including native species and trout, but its the year round variety that appeals to me in the salt water. I still make fairly regular trips to the freshwater, from local bass rivers to the snowy mountain lakes for trout and anything in between.

Any close calls from your kayak you wish to share?

The trip that still sends shivers down my spine, was a late evening session at Square head in Batemans bay fishing by myself just before dark. I heard a large splash not far from the yak and turned to see what it was but saw nothing, i kept looking in that direction but saw no evidence of what it was until i turned to look at my line that was still in the water only to see a decent size shark swim straight past me then circle back around and gave me a nudge on the way. This went on for about 5-10 minutes, brushing up against the side of the yak several times before eventually fading away in the distance. Easily the scariest experience i have had in a yak.

You’re addicted to the various Kayak Tournament circuits, happy with results so far?

I have taken a real liking to kayak tournament’s, and try to get to as many as possible but i mainly compete in the ABT and Squidgy southern bream series events. I was not at all happy with my results in the first few i attended, but now that i have entered a few more the nerves have settled and im happy enough with the results i have achieved.

What, if any, other types of fishing do you enjoy often?

I enjoy all forms of fishing including estuaries, offshore and freshwater, im happy to fish landbased from the rocks or surf. From a boat for when i need to cover lots of ground, but its the kayak that gets the most use and my preferred fishing platform.

Who's the craziest Yakker in the Kayak fishing world?

The first yakker that comes to mind has to be a guy going by the nickname ‘Murd’ on the Australian kayak fishing forum (AKFF). Once a year for the past 10 years he has been doing solo kayak fishing trips into the Gulf of Carpentaria in the Northern territory. You only have to read his thorough reports written on AKFF about close encounters with massive saltwater crocodiles to understand the guts it would take to go kayaking in those rivers, especially alone!

Why aren’t there more independent websites like kfa.net.au and yakass.net?

I think that most people would rather go to a forum or website that already exists rather than go to the trouble of creating one of their own. From what i have experienced, its the truly dedicated kayak anglers that are the ones to go the extra step and create another source of information whether it be a forum or website, for others to enjoy. Which in return will hopefully introduce more people to the sport and tournament scene.

Can you run through a couple of personal best results from your kayak for readers?

My personal favourite is a 43cm fork length bream from St.Georges basin a couple of months ago. A 71cm Flathead that smashed a surface lure in 1m of water at Lake Conjola. 44cm of hard fighting wild river bass hooked on a spinnerbait close to snags, which really tested my gear and knots, and a 44cm Estuary perch which fought just as hard but hooked on 2lb line and leader. Then there is the handful of big Jewfish that earned their freedom beside the yak, almost becoming PB’s.

I never got to see this item to rate it properly. Amazon.com clearly showed that this item was “IN STOCK” however it was not and they wanted me to wait 3 weeks for its delivery. Not exactly “IN STOCK” eh?

This is a technique used by web sites to generate orders when they don’t have it in their inventory. They say everything is “IN STOCK” then they get an order and hope that the person keeps the order active until they can back order the item.

If the item says “Not in stock” they know that the person will shop elsewhere. Its a low class con.

I cant believe that Amazon.com has stooped to this level.

Amazon.com is slowly decaying as a reputable company.

I will order stuff elsewhere from now on.

If you lie then I take my business elsewhere.

This is an ad for points collecting at a local gas station. Only 67,000 points equals a sea kayaking tour it says. Interesting that someone in the advertising department sees one of the benefits of collecting points is a sea kayaking tour. Maybe a kayaker themselves; maybe they know something.

What is it about the “yay” factor in sea kayaking that we all experience? Moreover, what is it that drives some of us to become addicted and others content to paddle a few times in the summer?

I feel it more at this time of year when paddling opportunities are limited by weather and circumstances. Its the freedom to poke along the shoreline, scoot between rocks, poke into caves or at the other extreme, to paddle out in the open ocean in big waves far from shore. Its about being a master of your own ship, learning new skills and a chance to prove your own self-sufficiency. Its about being out in the great wide open and leaving everyday ordinary chores behind on the beach.

Sea kayaking is many more things of course but one thing for sure, it makes me happy. Even if its only looking forward to my next paddle.

No, they haven’t added “snow kayaking” to the 2010 Winter games, but a couple of PakBoat folding kayaks will be there. During the Winter Olympics, two Puffin models will be on display (and offered for sale) at Lonsdale Quay public market in Vancouver, Canada. The “Dreamcatcher Boats” booth is located under the tent at the Seabus terminal, by the fountain – “you can’t miss it”. Brian Chandler is displaying a Puffin (12) Kayak and a Puffin Swift – both of them offered at very favorable prices. PakBoats worked out a special arrangement with Brian so that they will be able to ship boats directly to customers in foreign countries from the PakBoat warehouse in New Hampshire. Brian will take care of shipments to customers in Canada. This is a great opportunity for the Olympic visitors to get a look at these lightweight folding kayaks, up close and personal. If you happen to be an American visiting the Olympics, check them out and if you like what you see, contact PortableKayaks.com when you get back for free shipping and an excellent price.

Learn How To Go Ocean Fishing, In A Kayak

by E-NewsCast Team
February 2nd, 2010

There’s nothing like the combination of the thrill of fishing and the solitude of ocean kayaking.

Don’t you think ocean kayak fishing sounds wonderful? Anyone can do it, not just professional kayakers! All that is required is the right kind of kayak and you can be on your way. Imagine floating in your kayak in the middle of the ocean, having an enjoyable day of fishing. It could be you! It is important to have basic kayaking skills for this kind of kayaking activity. The only difference between fishing in your back yard, fishing in your kayak and fishing in the ocean is the kind of kayak.

It is certain that you will find that ocean-style kayaks cost much more than other types of kayaks. You want to be sure that you buy a good kayak, because the ocean can be a dangerous place if you do not have the best equipment. Ocean kayaks are easy to find, but they may be hard to select among. Choosing a kayak is a difficult decision unless you are well-informed. Knowing what is required is important. It makes your decision so much easier.

Ocean-style kayaks are very much more durable than other kayaks. Ocean kayaks are built for comfort and speed. They have tall backrests because of the type of waves you will come in contact with. There also are a more storage places that are great to keep your fishing gear and other equipment in so you do not dump them in the water.

Ocean kayaks can be bought at most kayak dealers and ocean-fishing stores. They cost a bit more but are a worthy investment. When you have bought a great ocean kayak, you are ready to begin your fishing adventures. Kayaking is a wonderful way to fish. It makes for a relaxing and enjoyable trip wherever you go. Now’s the time to start catching those huge ocean fish.

Whitewater Kayak

Buoyancy is one of the traits that make kayaks special. Therefore, jumping off the high dive in a kayak may have repercussions.

Just add water. Seriously: water + kayaks. They're made for each other.

Pro tip: do NOT add a long, bumpy stair case to the mix. It will end badly.

Who said you need water to kayak? These innovators figured out how to kayak — while staying completely dry. Introducing “Urban Kayaking!”

Kayaking is an Olympic sport. Gymnastics is an Olympic sport. Why not merge the two for one extreme sport: kayak-nastics?

Snow is water, after all, so these kayakers aren't taking too many liberties with the sport. On the other hand, they are taking a lot of liberties with their bodies … and with their fellow snowkayakers' bodies.

If you were thinking snowkayaking would be safer if you just removed other people … think again. This guy breaks the world kayaking record by hurtling downhill at 46mph — but does that seem safe to you?

Never kayak alone. Because there's no “alone” like the alone of being upside-down in the undertow of a waterfall.

Did we mention that you shouldn't kayak alone? Unfortunately, friends aren't always that much help, either.

Just keep it in the water and everything will be okay. Right?

Well… “okay” means different things to different people. Check out this last clip for a montage of some of the best kayaking wipeouts, rolls, and tooth-rattling splashes.

Want more? Don't miss 10 Hilarious (and Painful, and Frightening) Ski Lift Videos.

Tight Budget…
Agree with local retailers etc to some degree. REI serves sea kayaking but have zilch in the way of whitewater goods.
You really need to decide on one whitewater kayaking or sea kayaking. They are not one in the same and the gear has been specifically designed for each sport for your personal safety and comfort.

I know about nill in respect to the sea kayaking.

If you want rivers…you've got two choices, big water and creeks or play boating. I would recommend startign in a larger more forgiving boat if you head to the river. Start with www.americanwhitewater.org and then search for local clubs in your state etc also
professorpaddle.com if you happen to be in the PNW it is a great resource for those just starting. Get with people in a club or on a forum. most kayaker are pretty strraight forward and willing to help anyone learn that wants to, most will help with basics just because but good cold beer is always a good form of payment. you do need a ride back to the top of the river afterall right?
Check craigslist.org in your area and serach key words in sporting goods, kayak, paddle, helmet, life jacket, sprayskirt, roof rack. there are always people dumping stuff that dont use it anymore.
Also, again, the clubs, though some of their rules and memebers are at time quarky, as we all are, they are still the best resource. You might meet somone at a club function who's wife came foe the night finds out you want to learn, knows the husband has twenty kayaks and only paddles two of them anymore…just saying…expect some substancial upfront cost with little costs other tahn travel once you get into the scene.

"kalau di tuker mobil tadi kamu mau gak?" saya jawab "nggak… udah terlanjur jatuh cinta ama kebo… kalo nambah mau.. kalo tuker nggak mau…"

hmmm… mesti buru2 bener2in kebo neh biar bini gak ke doktrin lagi….

Dagger Kayaks Agent 6.0

The Dagger Agent is Daggers 2009 and 2010 hard hitting playboat. If your only interest is surfing , flip and pull playboat manuevers, the Agent 6.0, 6.2 and 6.4 are the 3 sizes available of this fast and furious playboat. What is unique about the agent is that it ignores the current trend of making playboats as tiny and petite as possible. The boat has somewhat large volume and profile for a playboat . It is a wildly popular boat for most paddlers since the greater volume and profile do make it somewhat more capable then the incredibly narrow play only boats that have been in vogue for the past couple years . It has also been successful for its comfy and roomy cockpit. Tiny playboats have tiny cockpits and the agent line of kayaks seeks to fight this problem . By making a more easy to sit in cockpit they have made a line of boats that are way better for larger or less flexible kayaker
